Well Lane in Curbridge sees several thousand vehicles use this stretch of road as a rat-run daily. We need the County Council to listen to the views of residents and make much needed changes to keep our village safer.

Oxfordshire County Council recently released statistics showing that up-to 10,000 cars travel through Curbridge on a daily basis. Thousands of these vehicles are using Well Lane as a shortcut between the A40 and the A405.

This large number of vehicles presents a danger to residents living in the street, especially young people who may be visiting the park. These cars often exceed the 20mph speed limit, with numerous near-misses occurring daily.

Thomas Ashby has been speaking with local residents about the issue of speeding along Well Lane and what action can be taken to prevent rat-runners and speeders. Cllr Thomas Ashby said, "People speeding along Well Lane, using it as a shortcut is a danger to residents, especially young people using the park. We see numerous people use the mini-library and lots of young people use the park as people speed through, using the road as a short cut from the A40 onto the A4095. In reality, anyone can see that the amount of time saved by using this road really is not beneficial. That's why I am working with residents, Curbridge Parish Council and Oxfordshire County Council to identify solutions to prevent people speeding along Well Lane in the future."

Some of the potential solutions could include:

  • Speed Humps

  • Speed Cushions

  • Chicanes (although parked cars already act as natural chicanes)

Thomas is eager to hear your views. So if you have any opinion about people using Well Lane as a rat-run and people speeding, please email Thomas on: thomas.ashby@westoxon.gov.uk
