Traffic Calming Plan for Well Lane

Since becoming the County Councillor for Curbridge, I've heard from many residents concerned about the high volume of unnecessary traffic on Well Lane.
With over 1,500 vehicles daily, the road is being used as a rat-run, primarily due to increased traffic from Windrush Place, Colwell Green, and the new roundabouts on Downs Road and the A40. Residents are frustrated, especially since Well Lane is home to the village's only play area and speeding is a daily issue.

While speed bumps are not yet officially being considered, I've asked a Highways Officer to create a simple drawing of where they could potentially be located. I am now seeking your opinion on this proposal.
In readiness for some type of traffic calming measure being required, I have asked the following question to the Cabinet Member for Highways:
I am writing to you about a public safety issue on Well Lane, Curbridge. This road, which was once a quiet residential street, has seen a notable increase in traffic volume and speed. This change is due to drivers using it as a cut-through to avoid the main road in the village, with a number of vehicles coming off of the A40 at the two new roundabouts, and increased traffic from Windrush Place and Colwell Green.
The increase in speeding vehicles is a concern because Well Lane is also the location of the village's only play area. We need to address this to ensure the safety of our children and other residents.
I have been working with residents and highways officers to find a solution, and the installation of speed humps has been identified as a strong option. However, this project needs a dedicated budget to move forward. I urge you to work with highways officers to allocate the necessary funds so these traffic calming measures can be put in place during the next financial year.

So, what do you think? Are the number of speed humps too much? Let me know your thoughts by emailing me at: thomas.ashby@oxfordshire.gov.uk
